“IoT Revolution – How does it benefit your business?” Conference
According to Cisco, by 2020, more than 50 billion connected devices will exist driving the next internet revolution. Gartner also says that a typical family home could contain more than 500 smart devices by 2022. IoT offers massive business opportunities to those who can adapt their products and services to exploit it across many industries. Speakers from renowned organisations shared their views and insights on the latest development and application of IoT at the conference.

Session 1 Theme: Global Trend on the IoT Development & the Arising Opportunities
Create the Internet of Your Things: The Microsoft Vision for IoT

(Left) Welcoming Remarks by Sophia Chong, Assistant Executive Director, HKTDC
(Right) Yuki Hon, Senior Technology Evangelist, Microsoft Hong Kong Limited shares Microsoft vision for IoT and points out that to become a digital business, harness the data spanning your business and operations by connecting your things – the people, processes and assets already at work in your company is key to success.

Internet of Things ‐ Powered by Analog and Embedded Processing
Ravi Gokhale, Director and Head of Texas Instruments China R&D says that IoT will drive the third generation of the internet age. It will connect things and eventually the internet will indeed become the internet of everything.
IoT ‐ Building Scaleable Solutions
Vivek Sharma, Global Director, Channel Business Development Group, Intel Sales & Marketing Group says that IoT is an opportunity to connect 50 billion devices, by many estimates, to collect information and use data analytics to provide more, better services and drive business transformation.

Panel Discussions: What are the market trends under IoT Revolution?

Ir Peter Yeung (left photo), Head of Information & Communications Technology Cluster, Hong Kong Science and Technology Parks Corporation , Anna Lin (right photo), JP, Chief Executive, GS1 Hong Kong, Yuki Hon, Ravi Gokhale and Vivek Sharma.

Session 2 theme: Future Vision of the IoT
IoT Is Changing the Way We Think About Technology
Curtis Sasaki, Vice President of Ecosystems and IoT General Manager, Samsung Electronics shares that IoT is about new ways to communicate, connect, deliver new insights, and delight people in ways we never imagined. It will challenge the way you think about technology, change the way you live, and even impact social policies.

Taking Light beyond Illumination– When Lighting Connected
Jo Shum, Senior Director and General Manager, Lighting Hong Kong and Macau, Philips Electronics HK Limited says that IoT development allows lighting to go beyond mere illumination, allowing us to develop our connected lighting innovations for the home, retail environments, offices and cities.
“IoT is a big trend now. I am happy to see that the HKTDC has adapted to the current trend by organising the first IoT conference during the Hong Kong Electronics Fair. The fair itself focuses more on products, while the conference allows speakers to share their views on IoT solutions and the latest IoT development with the participants. As a leading supplier of lighting products, Philips also makes contributions to the IoT trend. The conference provides a good opportunity for me to explain how the IoT platform allows Philips to develop its connected lighting innovations for the home, retail sector and buildings. The IoT applications in lighting products help to enhance people’s lifestyles, optimise performance and save energy.”
Jo Shum, Senior Director and General Manager, Lighting Hong Kong & Macau, Philips Electronics HK Ltd.

Creating New Value to Capitalize on the Internet of Things
Fred Sheu, General Manager, HP Software, Hewlett‐Packard HKSAR Limited shares the findings from the HP Fortify IoT 2015 report results highlighting the vulnerability issues related to IoT technology and solutions to tackle these threats.

Hear What Exhibitors Say
“Established in 1991, Microdia is a leading manufacturer of flash memory products. We have been participating in the Hong Kong Electronics Fair for 18 years and also the Hong Kong Pavilion organised by the HKTDC at overseas trade shows. With the help from the HKTDC, our products are now sold in 135 countries and regions. The Hong Kong Electronics Fair is getting bigger and bigger, attracting many overseas buyers. At this year’s fair, we are highlighting our USB Type-C adapters which allow users to connect their smart devices to any USB Type-C port. Buyers are very interested in testing samples at our booth. Six Apple stores and resellers have expressed their intention to buy our USB Type-C adapters on the first day of the fair, with total orders worth US$5 million being under negotiation.”
Louis Leung, Founder, President & CEO, Microdia Holdings Limited, Hong Kong

“VTech has a long history of joining the HKTDC Hong Kong Electronics Fair, starting in the 70s when it was just a startup. The fair helped us to expand our business to overseas markets such as Europe and the US. Since then, VTech has been an exhibitor of the fair for many years, with consistent positive experience in promoting our brand and products to worldwide visitors. The Hong Kong Electronics Fair is one of the world’s biggest electronics events where we can meet a lot of buyers and showcase our latest products. At this year’s fair, we are showcasing new products such as Kidizoom Smartwatch DX which comes with a built-in camera and motion sensor, and VSmart Wire-free Home Monitoring which features a baby monitor with ultra-low energy sensors, a wireless monitoring system with a telephone, an IP hub and a high-definition remote-access camera with pan and tilt functions.”

“Solenco is a distributor of climate control products for South Africa and its neighbouring countries. Our products include dehumidifiers, humidifiers, air purifiers, heaters, fans and air-conditioners which are imported mainly from the Chinese mainland and Hong Kong. This is my sixth time visiting the Hong Kong Electronics Fair. It’s a good place for me to meet my existing suppliers who are all exhibiting here and to develop new business. I’ll visit some of their factories after the fair. The Hong Kong Electronics Fair is a nice show where I can see new products, product trends and the latest developments in the electronics industry.”
Simon J. Brewer, Owner, Solenco, South Africa

“BIFIT is a leading software and hardware developer and provider, serving banks and financial institutions in Ukraine and Russia. This is my second visit to the Hong Kong Electronics Fair to look for new vendors of printed circuit boards and electronic parts and components. I like the fair because I can find many interesting items and obtain a lot of information here. I’ll meet suppliers after attending the first IoT conference because the HKTDC has invited leading speakers from big companies such as Intel, Microsoft and Texas Instruments to share their views on the latest IoT development and future trends. As an electronic engineer, it’s interesting to know what’s happening in the IoT revolution.”

Hear What Exhibitors Say
“This is a very successful exhibition. We’ve found quite a number of partners to work on our innovations and to develop new products through electronicAsia over the past few years. We are promoting our latest innovations in printed electronics, battery technologies and quantum dots application for LCD displays this year. Highlights include high performance printed memory tag, printed temperature sensor, flexible lithium ion battery, advanced lithium ion battery and quantum dot nanofiber mat for high quality LCD display. Printed electronics technology can lower the cost of manufacturing effectively and advanced battery technologies enhance applications, safety and efficiency. Quantum dot mat application will improve the color quality of LCD display. This fair is a great business cluster where we can learn about the current market trends for our research and development. We are able to secure both local and overseas partners, and leverage their expertise to develop new products.”
Peter W. Lee, Chief Technology Officer, Nano and Advanced Materials Institute Limited, Hong Kong

“This is always a great fair attracting a large number of buyers from all over the world. We are exhibiting here every year to promote our latest products and this year’s highlights include 4K panels for smartphones and a series of automotive-related applications. Demand for better quality touch panels is very strong as customers are going after high resolution panels and high color saturation displays. The automotive-related business segment is growing fast in particular and our new offerings on display include touch displays, smart rearview mirrors, integrated displays and compact camera module. Another focus of attention is certainly our new AMOLED manufacturing facility in the Chinese mainland that will come into operation by the end of this year. This fair offers an excellent opportunity to reach out to more international buyers. We are especially keen to meet with buyers from the emerging markets of South America and Eastern Europe. This is a very convenient and effective trading platform. We are able to establish good contacts and secure new buyers every year.”
Murphy W.C. Cheung, General Manager, Global Sales & Marketing, Truly Semiconductors Ltd., Hong Kong

Products that we are sourcing range from LCD and LED displays to encoders and connectors as well as various components for IoT applications, home automation, CCTV and telecom devices. This is a very well-organised fair. We expect to find 15 to 30 new suppliers this time and conclude an initial amount of orders worth at least US$50,000 to US$80,000 for different products.”
